Matthew Perry is the son of American actor, John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Jane Louise Morrison, a Canadian journalist. Ever since his childhood he knew that he wanted to be an actor. While still at school he participated in number of school plays and his passion towards acting became even more intense. While growing up Matthew was a good player of tennis and was ranked 17th nationally in the junior singles category and third in the doubles category. After completing his high school, Matthew enrolled himself at the University of Southern California but soon drooped out when he was given the offer of main lead in the series ‘Second Chance’. Thinking that it is a better opportunity to start his career with he grabbed the opportunity. After which there was no looking back for the star.

Matthew did guest appearances on hit series like ‘Growing Pains’ and ‘Beverly Hills 90210’. In 1990 he got a regular role in the series ‘Sydney’ and three years later he was doing ‘Home Free’. In 1994, Matthew Perry, got lucky with the role of Chandler Bing on Friends. In the Friends, he works for a multinational company and later marries Monica. In the series he was famous for his sarcastic sense of humor.

Besides television he has had an elaborate career in films. He has worked in films like ‘Fools Rush In’ where he worked with his father John Bennett Perry and Salma Hayek, ‘Almost Heroes’, ‘Three to Tango’, ‘The Whole Nine Yards’ and its sequel ‘The Whole Ten Yards’, and ‘Serving Sara’. Besides acting Matthew has also started directing. He started his directorial debut with an episode of the 4th season of ‘Scrubs’.

Though Matthew has had a good acting career, but at the same time he had to go through lots of ups and downs in his personal life. While Matthew was still working on ‘Friends’, he developed an addiction for drugs, which he used to take as a pain killer in order to recover from a Jet Ski accident. While he was trying to come out of it he became addicted to alcohol. He was then sent to hospital and also to rehabilitation centers.

Besides acting, Matthew also has a passion for writing and enjoys playing ice hockey and softball in his free time. Matthew currently resides in Los Angeles.
